Every year at Matrix Home Care we celebrate the mothers we serve. After all, it's a very special day for them, even when their children cannot be present.
On a personal level, I cherish the memories of growing up with my mother in Michigan in the early 1960s. Wrapped in my robe, I would look for a single flower to put next to her bedside perhaps a snowdrop (a flower my father brought from Denmark), a stem of dogwood or a daffodil. As an older child, I would bicycle to the local pharmacy and buy my mother a box of Russell Stover chocolates, the best candy in town.
As my mother neared her 80s, she became affected by Parkinson's disease and needed daily care. Through these difficult times, we continued to celebrate Mother's Day together over a special meal, sharing memories of our lives. Although my mother is gone now, I will always cherish her valiant spirit and the many years we enjoyed together.
